March 2018 – In an attempt to make the physical act of seeking medical care easier, Uber has been piloting Uber Health, a new initiative to help people with transportation issues get to medical appointments. Uber Health allows individuals and healthcare providers to schedule rides up to thirty days in advance, with options for follow-up appointments and reminders. According to Uber, the hidden cost of these transportation issues to the healthcare system total $3.6 million annually. Uber Health, which has been in beta testing with over 100 healthcare providers across the nation, attempts to alleviate that burden while increasing access for all patients, regardless of mobility.
