May 2018 – Teach Access, a fiscal sponsorship fund at Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) have announced their Curriculum Development Awards. According to their mission statement, Teach Access believes that “a more technologically accessible future depends on the creation of an accessibility-aware workforce, starting with post-secondary learning opportunities.” To help achieve this goal, Teach Access will be awarding twenty grants of $5,000 each to full-time, part-time and adjunct faculty to “develop modules, presentations, exercises or curriculum enhancements or changes that introduce the fundamental concepts and skills of accessible design and development into their existing traditional, classroom-based course.” According to the press release, ten of the awards are reserved for New York City-based universities, but all eligible participants are welcome to apply by June 4, 2018, at the following link: http://teachaccess.org/spring-2018-faculty-grant-application-form
Awardees will be announced in late June, with the expectation that winning courses will be taught from Fall 2018 through Spring 2019. Awardees will then be expected to demonstrate evidence of the course’s efficacy in increasing accessibility in June 2019 with an evaluation of their curriculum.
