Renowned International Speaker Partners to Promote Inclusion for Students with Vision Impairments

August 2020 — Michael Hingson, an internationally acclaimed public speaker who is blind, is partnering with Independent Science to inspire students with low-vision or blindness to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions. Independence Science is an affiliated company with Purdue University, whose mission is to change the framework of STEM learning by making more inclusive laboratory experiences such as hands-on activities that are accessible for students with vision disabilities. The products created by Independence Science aim to improve global access to STEM curricula and make more inclusive STEM environments. 

In an interview, Hingson noted how the COVID-19 pandemic shone a light on accessibility issues for scientists and STEM students in accessing science tools and research technologies. At the Independence Science company, Hingson will serve as an innovative thinker and problem solver who aims to improve the marketing of Independence Science’s products and services.
