August 4, 2020 — The Broome County Public Library (NY) received a $25,000 grant from the Tioga Downs Casino and Resort for new additions to the library that will increase accessibility. With these funds, the library was able to install new automated doors that are also wheelchair accessible. They were also able to purchase new computers that contained accessible software for people with vision disabilities. These computers also came with a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera that allows the user to do a variety of functions such as zoom in on text, color, and contrast adjustments, and read-aloud features. These computers also came outfitted with special mounts for the monitors so users can adjust the monitors to be closer to them or further away. The new accessibility features and additions to the library are promising steps towards the inclusion of people with disabilities in free public services, such as libraries.
