From GUI to VUI - The Rise of Voice User Interfaces

March 2018 – As audio user interfaces become increasingly prevalent, accessibility and ease of use appear to be on the rise. Amazon’s Echo, featuring the Alexa digital assistant, is by far the most popular smart speaker, and can be used to stream music, order pizza, and even control smart home technology. Digital assistants are anticipated to become more widespread in the near future; by 2020, voice searches are expected to account for half of all Google searches. Around 35 million Americans currently own a voice-activated assistant device, a figure that is predicted to increase drastically in the coming years as voice recognition and artificial intelligence technologies continue to improve exponentially.
